Dear Myanmar Alumni
I am pleased to inform you that with the support of our President, School of Engineering and Technology has proposed a 5-year program, with a total of 50 Myanmar students to study infrastructure related fields as a way to assist Myanmar in its re-construction after the Nargis Cyclone disaster. These students are expected to return to lead the reconstruction of Myanmar. We were verbally informed about the positive outcome of the request, starting from this August 2008. For 2008, we have proposed to provide 10 full scholarships to Myanmar students.
I write this email to you for your assistance to identify qualified candidates who are interested to apply for these 10 scholarships. There is no constraint except that the candidates are qualified for our admission and must agree to return to their home country.

The following documents should be submitted with the RTG Myanmar
Scholarship application form:
1. A copy of undergraduate certificate (in English)
2. An attested, official undergraduate transcript (in English if
available)
3. A one page statement on your role in the reconstruction of Myanmar
For the Field Secretary of Civil and Infrastructure thematic group, if
your FoS would like to nominate Myanmar applicant that you have
received for this scholarship, please fill the Form for this
scholarship (available online) on behalf of the applicant based on
his/her data available on the AIT Applicant file. However, you still
need to contact the applicant to ask him/her to send one page statement
on his/her role in the reconstruction of Myanmar. The undergraduate
certificate and transcript can be attached by copying the certificate
and transcript available from the AIT Applicant file. Hopefully, this
will speed up the process. Please be reminded that the deadline is 30
June 2008.
Please be informed that there are 16 new applicantions just submitted
to AIT by our agent in Myamar for this Scholarship. Kindly check with
Admission Office if there are any applications for your FoS so you will
have more options in selecting applicants for this scholarship
nomination.

Human Resources Development for
Sustainable Reconstruction of Myanmar
Background
To expedite AITs official response to support the people of Myanmar in this time of great need in the aftermath of tropical cyclone Nargis, AIT will mobilize additional resources to contribute to the sustainable relief of Myanman people. For long term rehabilitation of the cyclone-impacted areas, AIT would like to serve our host country Thailand in its plan to assist the sustainable reconstruction of Myanmar, especially in the area of infrastructure re-development. In this regards and in views of AIT’s mission, AIT proposes to the Royal Thai Government to form a strategic partnership in assisting the human resources development of Myanmar in civil engineering and infrastructure development.
Details of the Program
The “Human Resources Development for Reconstruction of Myanmar” Project in partnership with the Royal Thai Government is to earmark a portion of allocated budget for long term assistance of Myanmar. The Project therefore aims to provide an opportunity for
10 Myanmar students each year to study postgraduate program at AIT in the areas of civil and infrastructural engineers. These graduates are expected to return to Myanmar after graduation to lead the sustainable reconstruction of Myanmar.
Priority Fields of Study
• Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure Management (CEIM)
• Geotechnical Engineering and Geo-environmental Engineering (GTE)
• Structural Engineering (STE)
• Transportation Engineering (TRE)
• Water Engineering and Management (WEM)
Amount of Award
The scholarship covers:

Tuition and Registration Fees for
Master Degree Program (4 semesters) 752,000
Bursary to cover living, accommodation and
other expenses @11,500 Baht per month for
22 months. 253,000
Administration of the Project
AIT will administrate the project by recruiting 10 well qualified students from Myanmar with the condition that they will return to Myanmar after graduation. The 2008 batch of students will enroll in August 2008 in Civil and Infrastructure Fields of Study.
